Internship Review

Overall, I had a very positive relationship with my internship at Indiana Alliance Church. I truly have enjoyed the church environment and the staff I've had the delight of working with. I feel that above all, this experience has improved my deadline-making skills. We were required to pump out various projects on a weekly basis, especially with the time crunch of multiple events on the calendar. I feel the fast-paced environment cultivated a readiness in me to get projects completed in a professional, well-done manner. Another learning curve of this internship was navigating the supply chain and working with church funds. When creating the set for Cultivating Candor I had to search many stores and websites for suitable props, while being aware of the budget and finances I was in charge of. I found this task enjoyable, yet challenging given that you can only do so much with a fluctuating amount of funds supplied to a nonprofit. I have also had to put all my editing skills to the test with the projects I was assigned over the course of my internship. I worked with many programs every week, including Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Audition, and Canva to work on videos, graphics, and the podcast. I felt that the weekly practice within these programs strengthened my skills tremendously. I felt the church healthfully allowed me to create outstanding work in a quick manner whilst utilizing my professional skills. Given this experience, my future career plan would be to find a media position where I could work similarly to how I have been at IAC. It has been rewarding to be exposed to a faith-centric workplace, where I get to practice all the skills I've learned over the years for the sake of a cause I believe in.
Internship Objectives
Objective 1
Provide the intern with a direct supervisor who is experienced in the field in which the intern is seeking a career
Dr. Rev. Marv Nelson

Dr. Marv Nelson has been an Alliance pastor for over seventeen years and serves as an adjunct professor at Crown College. He has a Masters of Divinity degree and recently completed his doctorate at Alliance Theological Seminary.
For my internship, my site supervisor was Dr. Rev. Marv Nelson. He would assign projects to me during staff meeting on Wednesdays and we would follow up with those assignments with a one-on-one meeting on Fridays. Marv has sufficient accreditation in the field of work I am seeking my career in. Given that I want to work in ministry as a media specialist, Marv has sufficiently provided me with the tools and teachings to achieve those goals. Marv especially knows a lot of valuable information about dealing with people and scholarly information about theology. He has written many books that helps him to understand the production process well -- these books include: Unleash, The Land of Promise, What Good is Jesus, and The Anchored Life. However, he also dabbles in media related activities for his sermon, the podcast, he often designs graphics for the church, and he is proficient in Mac products, especially with the sound equipment for on-stage performances. I feel that Marv is more than certified in helping me to achieve my career goals from his ample experience in both ministry and the production process.
Objective 2
Provide the intern with a detailed internship job description for the position prior to the start of the internship
Below is the job description Dr. Nelson provided me before the start of my internship. It was emailed to me on January 24th, 2024, and details the requirements for the position I worked in this summer.
Objective 3
Provide the intern with an experience that will further learning and knowledge in the intern's chose field
I feel that my internship provided me with plenty of learning opportunities that broadened my perspective of the work environment. I was able to work on a podcast, detailing the production process and placing into action my audio skills. I worked on the Sunday video announcements weekly, which tested my time management, planning, and video production skills. I worked often in programs like Photoshop and Canva to make graphics for multiple events. I worked alongside volunteers and congregants to complete the pictorial directory, which tested my photography skills in a professional setting. Overall, I feel that all the projects I worked on were well-rounded in testing my skills and improving them over time.
Objective 4
Help the intern to achieve outlined educational goals and objectives listed above
Again, I feel that my time at IAC helped me to further my experience towards my career goals because the projects I participated involved audio, video, photography and editing.
Objective 5
Complete a mid-term and final performance evaluation on the intern and submit these evaluations to the interns' faculty supervisor in a timely manner
My site supervisor completed both the mid-term and final performance evaluation sheets. They were submitted via email on June 13th (mid-term) and August 2nd (final).
Objective 6
Meet the intern's faculty supervisor via phone call, scheduled at mutual convenience
My site supervisor spoke with my professor on Monday, June 17th at 1:00 pm. I then answered the follow-up call with Dr. Lenze to discuss the call with Marv, and my upcoming final project progress.
